About the RTK + vision
RTK (Real-Time Kinematic) corrects GNSS satellite positioning with data from a nearby reference antenna or a network service, bringing accuracy down to a few centimetres.
Cameras add visual positioning (VSLAM) and obstacle recognition, filling the gaps where satellite reception is poor. This combination is currently the most common wire-free setup.
RTK + vision is now the mainstream design for wire-free mowers: satellites handle positioning on the open lawn, while one or more cameras provide visual odometry (VSLAM) and AI obstacle recognition. When the RTK fix drops under a tree, the mower keeps tracking its movement from what it sees until the signal returns.
The cameras also make mowing safer and neater: they detect pets, toys, hoses and garden furniture, recognise lawn edges for cleaner borders, and in some models identify bare patches or long grass.
It is the best all-round choice for typical suburban gardens with a mix of open lawn and some trees. Mammotion LUBA 2/3, Segway Navimow, Sunseeker X Gen 2, Roborock RockMow X115H/X130H, WORX Landroid Vision Cloud and Kress EyePilot all use variants of this approach.
RTK + vision: how it works

RTK + vision: FAQ
What is network RTK?
Instead of placing your own reference antenna in the garden, the mower receives correction data from a network of stations over the internet.
Can an RTK + vision mower work at night?
Positioning by RTK works in the dark, but camera-based obstacle detection is limited at night unless the mower has headlights or infrared. Many owners mow during the day to protect wildlife.
Do the cameras record my garden?
Mowers process images on board for navigation; some apps offer live view or anti-theft cameras. Check the brand's privacy settings and turn off features you do not need.
